ROADS COMMITTEE REPORT

Projects & Expenditures
May, 2010 - May, 2011
Stone Masonry Total
Cost
$29,819
1. Two sections on
Heron Road were washed out during the heavy rains in the Fall, 2010. A gabion basket retaining wall with a curb
was installed to repair where the road had been undermined with the curb
installed to direct the water down to the gut.
A 4 ft wide section that had badly eroded was also paved.
2. Stone Masonry also did general cleanup
relative to the Fall, 2010 rains: primarily clearing some mudslides and
culverts.
3. During the implementation of the NOAA/ARRA
grant projects in Fish Bay we extended some of the projects to improve the
erosion control measures. (approx.
$10,600 of FB funds was used for this purpose)
Majestic
Construction Total Cost
$26,813
1. The culvert under Marina Drive at the
entrance to Fish Bay had become totally clogged with rock, soil &
debris. Water coming from several
directions was unable to go thru the culvert & the road flood
periodically. The section of culvert on
the water side of the road had deteriorated and either needed to be replaced or
another alternative needed to be installed to direct the water into the
bay. Majestic installed a ditch on the
water side, cleaned out the culvert, installed a concrete wall along the uphill
edge of the road meeting the ditch and installed a removable grate to keep
rocks & debris from entering the culvert.
2. During the Fall, 2010 heavy rains a concrete
portion of Pelican Road (off Arawak Road) was undermined, paving collapsed
& needed to be repaired. Majestic removed the broken concrete, graded &
compacted the area & repaved a section of the road. Grading on upper Pelican was done to fill in
a deep ditch which was created by runoff and fill was placed along the edges of
pavement. A portion of Arawak was also
graded.
NOAA/ARRA Grant
Project Update
$480,000

the past, the contract between Stone Masonry and the VI Resources Conservation
and Development Council for Fish Bay Watershed Stabilization Projects was
awarded in November, 2009. Just recently
we completed the final inspection and final payment has been issued to Stone
Masonry. This was a exceptional
opportunity for Fish Bay and its residents.
Roads that have been improved with these funds include Z. Road, Cocoloba
Trail (west & east ends), Marina Drive, Hill Top Road, and Fish Bay Lane. Paving, swales, ditches, culverts, &
gabion basket wall were installed.
